The Revolutionary Memorial Hall of Shanxi-Suiyuan Liberated Area comprises the Government of Shanxi-Suiyuan Liberated Area, the former site of the Command of Shanxi-Suiyuan Military Region and the new exhibition hall. The former site is derived from the houses and garden donated by Mr. Niu Youlan, an open-minded gentry of the Shanxi-Suiyuan region back then. In August 1941, Commander He Long led the 120th Division to move to this residence, which later became the location for the Administrative Office of Shanxi-Suiyuan Liberated Area, the Command of Shanxi-Suiyuan Military Region, and the 120th Division's headquarters. He Long, Guan Xiangying, Lin Feng, Xu Fanting, Zhou Shidi, Li Jingquan and Niu Yinguan, the main leaders of the Party, government and troops of the Shanxi-Suiyuan Liberated Area, fought and lived here for a long time. During the years of revolutionary struggle, Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Liu Shaoqi, Zhu De, Ren Bishi and other leaders of the CPC Central Committee also stayed here one after another. The famous Conference of Cadres in the Shanxi-Suiyuan Liberated Area was held here, where Mao Zedong published the Speech at a Conference of Cadres in the Shanxi-Suiyuan Liberated Area and A Talk to the Editorial Staff of the Shanxi-Suiyuan Daily (later included in the Selected Works of Mao Zedong Volume IV), and wrote the general lines and overall strategies for the periods of the Agrarian Revolution and the New Democratic Revolution. What are being exhibited now include: the accommodations of Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Liu Shaoqi, Ren Bishi and other leaders of the CPC Central Committee; the former residences of He Long, Xu Fanting, Niu Yinguan, Luo Guibo and other comrades; the site of the Conference of Cadres in the Shanxi-Suiyuan Liberated Area, the site of Mao Zedong having a talk to the editorial staff of the Shanxi-Suiyuan Daily, and Liuliu Pavilion.

Since its establishment, the Revolutionary Memorial Hall of Shanxi-Suiyuan Liberated Area has been highly valued and cared for by the CPC Central Committee and the Central Government, and local Party committees and governments at all levels.

On June 21, 2017, when General Secretary Xi Jinping inspected the Revolutionary Memorial Hall of Shanxi-Suiyuan Liberated Area, he presented flower baskets to the revolutionary martyrs of the Shanxi-Suiyuan Liberated Area, visited the former sites of the government of Shanxi-Suiyuan Liberated Area and the Command of Shanxi-Suiyuan Military Region, and met with the veteran representatives from the former Eighth Route Army and People's Liberation Army of Xing County.

Jiang Zemin, Hu Jintao, Wen Jiabao and other Party and state leaders also visited and inspected here in person.

As a national demonstration center for patriotism education, the Revolutionary Memorial Hall of Shanxi-Suiyuan Liberated Area has played an active role in inheriting the Shanxi-Suiyuan "red" culture and promoting the spirit of patriotism.
